'The west side of San Juan Island appears to be the meeting place for Southern Resident Orca these days. Now that L and K pod have come in to the area, the 'BIG BOYS' of each pod, J , K, and L seem to spend a little time with the girls from pods other than their own. This gives rise to much playful activity. Usually the boys travel with their immediate sub-family groups and mostly with their mothers. The 3.30pm Saturday 'Ocean Magic' with Capt, Shaun in the wheel house, and crew members, Derek, Arlee and Rhonda took our guests to San Juan Island, near Cattle Point, where we met up with several members of K pod playing in the kelp and tide line. A 'sprouter ', a young male from L pod, L 88 , 'Wave Walker', was right there enjoying the company of K girls. It was an amazing look at these magical creatures, just being playful ORCA. Soon this amazing 'Prince of Whales' trip was over, but the shared knowledge from our experienced crew put smiles on our happy guests.
