9am Ocean Magic
The 9am Ocean Magic 2, took our guests onboard out west in search of Orca. No reports of 'Killer Whales' had come in that early Saturday morning August 15th. With Capt Shaun in the wheel-house, Casey, Arleigh as Naturalists on board we were sure to find one or more of the illusive Orca. With our intrepid Zodiac skipper Mark ahead of us out west, no whale was going to slip past all these eyes searching the horizon. Sure enough our Zodiac driver caught up with a Transient Orca T 14, affectionately named 'Pender ' heading past Sheringham Lighthouse. He was taking long dives as he traveled further out west. We spent some time watching this lone killer whale. Many migrating sea birds could also be seen on this trip including Northern Fulmars. Their summer range is in the high Arctic, including the Aleutian Islands.Marie, Orca-Magic
Our experienced Capt. Shaun took the ' Ocean Magic 2 ' at 12.15pm, Saturday Aug 15th, out of Victoria's picturesque harbour and turned east to search for the Southern Resident Orca that had been reported off the west coast of San Juan Island. It was here that we found them once again, tight in shore foraging for their main food item, Salmon. Some of J pod Orca, one of the three pods seen here during the summer months, were identified. Breaching and spyhop behaviours were seen from the ones closest inshore. It was another one of those magical encounters with the Southern Resident Orca once again. Our guests had a wonderful time viewing these amazing mammals.

The good weather continues here on the west coast and so do the sightings of the whales. The sunshine disappeared briefly behind the clouds for Saturday's 3.30pm 'Ocean Magic 2 ' trip, but our guests were still treated to a fantastic show on the water watching the Southern Resident Orca, the fish eaters as they went about their business of foraging for Salmon off San Juan Island. Our experienced Captain Shaun and crew, Rhonda, Casey, and Arleigh shared their knowledge of all things Marine with the many international visitors on board. It was extraordinary to see a little calf breach several times in close proximity to other Orca. Members of all three pods, J , K and L were seen traveling north on this trip together. It was a 'Super Pod' experience and that doesn't happen all the time. Our guests were all smiles once again.
