Our 9am Ocean Magic was magical, Captain Shaun "Saltchuck" took us East in search of Orca. Our trip took us along Victoria's waterfront and past Oak Bay. As we made our way past Discovery Island we discovered some Transient Orca working the kelp beds off the Island. They were identified at the T101's. Six individuals in total, one being a rather large male Orca with a huge dorsal fin. We watched these apex predators as the worked through Bains Channel and into the small Islands off Oak bay. After a great viewing of these Transient (mammal eating) Orca we headed further east to San Juan Island and caught up with some of L pod. We enjoyed seeing L41 Mega and several others as they worked the waters off San Juan Island for their prey, salmon. This was a super Wildlife adventure, taking in both Transient and Resident Orca!
The 12:15 Ocean Magic went west to Rocky Point where we caught up with the T101's. We followed these Transient Orca as they worked their way west along Vancouver Islands Rugged shoreline. Such a treat to see these spectacular animals set against such wonderful scenery. The on board naturalists Scott, Rhonda and Stewart answered all the questions of our passengers and passed along their wealth on knowledge of our west coast marine wildlife. Our Skipper Shaun then took us through Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we enjoyed the sights of Elephant Seals, California Sea Lions and Harbour Seals. Such a special day on the water, our passengers left with great memories of the Orca, and the other abundant Marine Wildlife!
