Humpbacks, Porpoises, Sealions 3:30, Aug 19

Today's 3:30 Ocean Magic Adventure took us a few miles off Victoria's waterfront where we found 3 humpback whales! The water was flat calm, clear blue skies and warm summer temperatures, it was perfect weather today. We saw one individual milling by itself and another mother and calf duo swimming beautifully together. After watching them, we headed to the Sooke area where we'd heard of transient killer whales making their way east from Beechy Head. Although we didn't find them, we did encounter a variety of porpoises; Dalls and harbours. On our way back, we stopped at the world famous Race Rocks and observed the variety of pinnipeds basking on the rocks; harbour seals, stellar sealions and elephant seals. In fact the weather was so nice, the sealions were steaming on the rocks! On our way back into Victoria, we stopped to have one last look at the humpbacks who were still in the general area in the Juan de Fuca Strait. Beautiful dual fluke shots sighted today! A beautiful adventure on today's afternoon trip!

It was a treat to catch up with Marie today on the boat, one of our photographers for the blog, I expect some of her images will show up in this post in the near future ;)
