Our intrepid Skipper Mark, 'Mallard' , took the 3pm Zodiac south into the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Victoria's picturesque harbour. We traveled past many sea birds, Common Murres and Sooty Shearwaters. A few Dall's Porpoise surprised us as we headed to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. It was here we saw Harbour Seals, Steller and California Sea Lions. Our travels then took us across the Strait in search of Orca. At Dungeness Spit where we saw Harbour Seals on the beach and the attractive, historic Lighthouse. As no Orca could be located we headed back to Albert Head where we encountered a Humpback Whale being harassed by a Sea Lion. We watched as this lone Humpback whale thrashed around trying to lose the irritating sea lion. We observed several deep dives of this giant whale as it dove while foraging. It was another great wildlife adventure with 'Prince of Whales.'
