The 3.30pm Ocean Magic 2 vessel, Friday Sept. 11th headed out of the harbour and set a course south into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It was here at Constance Bank that two Humpback Whales were seen. We watched these large baleen whales take long dives, resurfacing with big noisy 'blows'. Such fascinating marine mammals that are now frequenting these waters. Capt. Tyler and his crew took the boat further south and east to Hein Bank in USA waters. It wasn't long before we encountered a Minke Whale as well as several members of L pod that were foraging and heading slowly north. With such calm water all around and much late afternoon sunshine, it was totally magical to hear the sound of the Orca's 'blow's and to watch them disappear beneath the surface. It was a most peaceful and spectacular afternoon trip with three different species of whale. Brief glimpses of Dall's Porpoise enriched our wildlife trip and our guests were thrilled with their adventure on the westcoast.
