The month of September is turning out to be a great month for sightings of whales. Even the weather is cooperating. With plenty of sunshine and calm water it is the best time to take a wildlife adventure with 'Prince of Whales'. The Southern Resident Pods, J, K and L are still traveling around the San Juan and Gulf Islands, and sometimes out west in search of Salmon which is their favourite food so are seen almost every day. Our experienced Capt. Tyler took the 3.30pm Ocean Magic 2 out of the harbour and after 15 minutes travel time south of Albert Head, we were with a Humpback Whale that played with kelp, spyhopped and took some lazy dives. It was a fascinating and amusing time to watch this giant of the deep. We then headed up Haro Strait to discover Dall's Porpoise and some Orca. We could clearly see several members of J pod, J1 , 'Ruffles', J 2, 'Granny', the oldest member of J pod at 98 yrs old, and J 30 and his immediate family, traveling north past Kellet Bluff. It was a most memorable time spent with some of the wonderful marine mammals found in these nutrient rich waters.
