Our yellow 'Prince of Whales' Zodiac with Skipper Miles at the wheel, headed east out of the harbour to follow the good weather and whales. Southern Resident Orca, J pod, the salmon eaters, had been sighted and they were heading north. It was a picturesque and very smooth ride to catch up with these magnificent whales. The sun was shining and the water calm with extraordinary scenery all around. The whales when we found them, were spread out in small family groups, some were resting and others, including J 1 'Ruffles', were very active . We watched spy-hops, breaches and many tail-lobs by individual Orca. It was a most exciting encounter when these whales cornered Turn Point and headed east toward the Strait of Georgia. Our return trip included a talk by our Skipper, Miles, on the importance of Bull Kelp to the health of all mammals and fish in these productive waters of the west coast. It was a very special trip once again.
