The yellow 'Prince of Whales' zodiac with Skipper James at the wheel, headed our international guests from Germany, Holland and Ontario out past the cruise ships moored near the break-water. Our wildlife adventure was headed toward San Juan Island where several members of L pod, part of the Southern Resident community of fish eating Orca, were reported to be seen. We encountered the L 12 family group off Cattle Point, San Juan island. They were foraging close to shore, in a northward travel mode. The large male Orca born in 1977, was identified as L 41, 'Mega' . We spent time with him under sunny skies. He did managed to surprised us with a huge breach. A little spray, wind and waves added to the thrill of our west coast adventure during our return trip to Victoria Harbour. Our guests loved every minute of their encounter with the Orca.
