Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure Oct 4 12:15pm

October can be a spectacular month on the west coast with beautiful Autumn colours and plenty of wildlife to be observed. Add to that, some great sunny days and calm conditions on the water. The 'Ocean Magic 2 ' vessel is still heading out of the harbour each day on wildlife adventures so everyone can expect some fun. Sunday's Oct 4th,12.15pm trip took us to Albert Head, William Head, along the coast of Vancouver Island and Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. It was between these three destinations that we were privileged to encounter a Humpback Whale who was busy chasing small fish and two frisky Sea Lions that seemed to be playing in the same area. The young whale would sail its 'flukes', tail, through the air, dropping them with a thunderous splash. Later, several curious Dall's Porpoise bow and stern rode the wake of the Ocean Magic. Awesome to watch. Our experienced Capt . Anna and crew, shared their knowledge with all on board. A visit to Race Rocks Lighthouse gave us looks at barking and growling California and Steller Sea Lions. A few lounging harbour seals could be seen on some rocks. It was a wonderful and exciting way to spend the afternoon appreciating the diversity of marine mammals in these cold, but nutrient rich waters.
