Our intrepid Skipper, Mark 'Mallard', headed the 1pm yellow Zodiac out of the harbour and turned west in search of Orca, part of the Southern Resident community. We had guests on board from England, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Victoria. The Orca that had been seen on an earlier trip were 6 members of K pod, the K 13's. These 6 had been seen with J pod over the past two weeks, and now had broken away from the others and were headed out west. We found them bucking an incoming tide near Church Rock, Sooke, and moving fast through some heavy seas. The big 'CHOP' and spray added some excitement for our guests on their wildlife adventure. Our return trip found a Bald Eagle's nest with both adults at home along with a few Harbour Seals, in that area, on rocks. A visit to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve, gave us views of Elephant seals, California and Steller Sea Lions. It was another 'magical' and sunny day on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
