Some days are great and others pure 'Magic'. Today was one of those brilliant days with abundant sunshine and wildlife all around. Our 11 am Zodiac, with guests on board from Switzerland and Germany headed out of the harbour with Skipper 'Mark, 'Mallard' at the controls. We were traveling east and north up Haro Strait on calm seas to find those 'Magical' creatures, the Orca. We found J pod, one of the Southern Resident Pods, in a resting formation off Kellett Bluff, Henry Island. J1, 'Ruffles', and J 2, 'Granny' , the two most famous Orca of J Pod were easily seen. All the family groups with in this pod, were travelling slowly altogether against an ebbing tide. It was an amazing sight. These are the fish eating Orca. Our return trip took us to Kelp Reef where we saw two Steller Sea Lions among the kelp as well as a Bald Eagle. Harbour Seals and sea birds were encountered at Chain Islets. The wildlife, sights and sounds on the water around Victoria, are always amazing.
