A recipe for an exciting time on the water is to take a 'Prince of Whales' yellow Zodiac. Then add a heaping cup of wildlife, a helping of sunshine and calm water, and then let the wind blow through your hair on a warm afternoon. Such is the 'Magic' of a west coast adventure. Our 12.30 pm Zodiac with Skipper 'Rush ' at the wheel, headed us east toward the San Juan Islands. On our way we encountered a surfacing Minke whale near Hein Bank. We had great looks at this illusive Baleen whale. We soon found many members of J pod Orca, fish eating toothed whales, moving rapidly along the shoreline of San Juan Island. One of the new calves, J 44 was seen swimming along side its mother J 17. Several members of K pod orca were also seen travelling with J pod. Harbour Porpoise, Bald Eagles, assorted Sea birds, Rhinoceros Auklets and large groups of gulls feeding at bait balls added interest to our wildlife adventure.
