Ocean Magic Wildlfie Adventure May 9

Our Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure set out on calm seas under clear sky's. Capt Tyler took us west along Vancouver Island rugged coast line as we searched for wildlife. Our first stop was at a Bald Eagle nest. Perched top an old tree, we watched a Bald Eagle as it tended its little ones. We then continued on, after a short time we slowed to view some Harbor Porpoise. These shy mammals surfaced a few times as they worked the tide lines in search of food. We then toured Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we took in Northern Elephant Seals, Steller Sealions, Harbor Seals and an abundance of marine birds. Just another beautiful day on the water with Prince Of Whales.

Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure May 7

Capt. Chris and his crew, Liz and Shaun, took the 12.15pm, 'Ocean Magic' vessel out past the breakwater at the entrance to the Victoria Harbour. The wind was up and so were the waves in places. We headed east to try catch up with J pod that had been reported near Rosario in the San Juan Islands. Just south of Seabird Lighthouse we encountered a group of Transient Orca. They appeared to be in a resting mode, called ' logging ', for they took no notice of several Harbour Porpoise, a prey item for Transients, milling around in close proximity to the 5 Orca. One of these 5, an older male,T 40, is affectionately named '' Capt. Hook ''. His very 'hooked' dorsal fin is quite remarkable. The others in this group were the T 71's. Our experienced crew shared their knowledge with the many international guests on board. The return trip included a visit to Chatham and Discovery Islands where we saw Harbour Seals. Although the sun remained hidden behind the clouds our encounter with the sea bird and wildlife was truly awesome.

Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure May 3

The Sunday Ocean Magic left the harbour at 12.15pm, with Capt. Tyler in the wheelhouse. The sun was out and the seas calm. Our adventure took us west past Race Rocks out into the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Here we enjoyed some playful Dalls Porpoise. These stocky porpoise have a black body with large white sections on the sides and belly. They are 6 to 8 feet long, weighing up to 400 pounds. Our First Mate Derek shared a wealth of knowledge with our guests about the marine life found in these waters, answering all questions posed. We carried on to Crescent Bay on the Washington coast, here we caught up with a Grey Whale as it worked the nutrient rich mud of the bay for food. This gentle giant worked close to the shoreline in shallow water and would slowly rise for air in the flat calm waters of the protected bay. Our travels took us back to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. The Steller Sealions, Northern Elephant Seals, Bald Eagles were plenty, and we all took in the sights of a very special part our wondrous west coast. Just another wonderful day on the sea with Prince Of Whales.

Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure May 2

Our 12:15 Ocean Magic wildlife adventure left the harbour with Capt. Tyler in the wheelhouse. We toured the south west coast of Vancouver Island in search of its abundant wildlife. We spotted several Habor Porpoise as we crossed Juan De Fuca Strait. We carried on west and traveled to Crescent Bay on the Washington coast side. Here we took in views of a foraging Gray whale. Our crew, Mika and Derek shared a wealth of knowledge with our guests about the marine life found in these waters. On our way back we stopped off at Race Rocks. Here we took in the sights of Steller Sea Lions in the water as well as on the rocks. Harbour seals, Elephant Seals and a Bald Eagle were also observed. Nothing beats a West Coast Wildlife Adventure with Prince Of Whales... Its a Blast!!

Ocean Magic Wildlife Adventure May 1

The Ocean Magic left the harbour at 12.15pm, with Capt. Chris in the wheelhouse. Many local, and international visitors were on board along with two 'Á' TV crew members. Conditions were brilliant. Abundant sunshine and relatively smooth water were the order of the day. The scenery was spectacular as we headed out across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We were on a mission to find those illusive Orca. They were not to be seen on this trip but instead we had great views of a foraging Gray whale at Crescent Bay on the Washington State side of the Strait. Our expert crew, Anna , Mika and Derek shared a wealth of knowledge with our guests about the marine life found in these waters. A visit to Race Rocks allowed for views of Steller Sea Lions in the water as well as on the rocks. Harbour seals, 8 Elephant Seals and a Bald Eagle were also observed. This was another exciting wildlife adventure with Prince of Whales.
