A wild and windy adventure today onboard the Ocean Magic. Capt Brad and Capt Kurt took us across Haro Strait to East Point and to San Juan Island where we enjoyed watching J Pod. The whales put on quiet a show, breaching, tail lobbing, spyhops, sharking... it was non stop. Photos by Clint "Orcawizard"
The waters were alive with wildlife on Saturdays Ocean Magic adventures. Capt Brad and Capt Shamus took us east to Eagle Point off San Juan Island. With Mount Baker in the background we enjoyed the west coast scenery with the magic Orca of K Pod. Photos by Clint "Orcawizard and Marie "Orca-Magic"
'' It was a real adventure in the ''Queen-of Hearts '' Zodiac this morning. With grey skies and choppy waters we went to find those magical creatures, the Southern Resident Orca. By 10 am they were found 2-3 miles south of Trail Island in a resting formation. It was amazing to see all these whales, J, K and L pod together in family groups moving slowly through the water of Oak Bay flats. Their direction of travel took them past Chatham and Discovery Islands and across Haro Strait. We left them actively foraging at 2pm off shore at San Juan Island. Another awesome trip to experience the west coast wildlife. '' Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"
It was a great west coast adventure once again on the Ocean Magic. We had good looks at J-Pod orca at San Juan Island as well as Harbour seals and Bald Eagles at Chatham and Discovery. The entertaining and knowledgeable crew on board gave an indepth summary of the marine life found in these nutrient rich waters. With magestic Mt.Baker rising on the horizon, sunny skies above and blue water below it was a perfect day to be out observing wildlife. Photos by Marie "Ocra-Magic"
The sun was sparkling on the water for this Saturday's Ocean Magic adventures. We were treated to the magic of J Pod. The whales put on a great show as they passed by. The passengers were treated to tail fluking and breaches. On our way back from our visit with the whales we stopped off at some of the local islands and checked out the abundant wildlife from harbor seals, cormorants and bald eagles. Just a splendid west coast day. Photos by Clint "Orcawizard"
The 9am excursion in the '' Queen of Hearts '' with Mark at the helm, was a trip to discover some of the abundant marine wildlife in these waters. Our encounter with Harbour seals, Northern Sea Lion, Bald Eagles of different ages, River Otter and feeding Pigeon Guillemots were most interesting. It was yet another beautiful sunny day here on the west coast and the wildlife was everywhere. Photo's by Marie "Orca-Magic"
Under sunny skies, the 12.15pm sailing of the Ocean Magic took us out west in search of those illusive orca that had been seen earlier in the day. Our route took us past the scenic shoreline of Vancouver Island. The Olympic mountains and Mt Baker added to the slendour of the west coast scenery. A visit to Race Rocks was an added bonus where passengers could enjoy the view and appreciate the marine wildlife, thanks to the knowledgeable Prince of Whales staff on board. It was another great day on the water. Photo's by Marie "Orca-Magic"
It was one of those fabulous days when J, K and L Pods, the southern resident orca, caught up with one another. A whole lot of playful behaviours were observed by passengers on the 12.15 sailing of the Ocean Magic. We found several members inshore and offshore San Juan Island. One enthusiastic female breached repeatedly close to the boat to the sheer joy and amazement of all those on board. The 'boys' were happy to see the 'girls' and one young orca rubbed itself between two females. Another magical day with orca on the west coast. Photo's by Marie "Orca-Magic"

Some wonderful photos of K Pod off San Juan Island taken from the Ocean Magic Sunday. With Mt Baker in the background the whales worked northbound along San Juan Island. Photo's by Marie "Ocra-Magic"
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
The videos are generally shot in wide angle and are very realistic to what the eye sees on the boat. Please enjoy the photos for the telephoto view, and the videos for a boat based, real life passenger view.
