The 1.30pm Zodiac ''Queen of Hearts'' headed south toward the Washington coast line. We had our intrepid skipper, Mark on board who was determined to make our trip memorable. We found a lone, barnacle, encrusted Grey Whale, foraging in shallow water, off the bluffs at Dungeness Spit. It was an active 'grey', surprising us with big blows and tail-fluking. Grey whales have one of the longest known annual migrations. They winter in the lagoons of Baja California and Mexico and migrate to the Bering, Chukchi and western Beaufort Seas every summer. We made a quick visit to Dungeness Light Station and enjoyed the large numbers of harbour seal hauled out on shore at the tip of Dungeness Spit. With choppy seas all around our return trip back to Victoria was exciting. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"
