The Southern Resident Orca have been around in this area for 80 consecutive days now and as typical for this time of year, all three Pods, J, K and L can be seen somewhere close to either the west side of San Juan Island, Victoria or near Vancouver most days.Today the 3.30pm Ocean Magic 2 vessel with Capt. Anna, and crew members Mika, Liz, Dan and trainee, Branden on board, headed east charting a course toward San Juan Island. It was here we encountered playful Orca from J and K Pod in calm water and sunshine. We saw K 12 with her newest baby K 43, also one of her other calves K 37, born in 2003. There was much tail slapping and rolling around as males appeared to seek the attention of females. It was delightful to watch. Our guests were very happy with their sightings of these endangered ' ORCA ' that engaged our curiosity.
It was another splendid Thursday afternoon trip.
Marie, Orca-Magic
