With the stormy winds of the weekend gone, the Ocean Magic with Capt.Tyler, and naturalists, Rhonda, Derrek and Rush on board, we headed out of the harbour under sunny skies. The sea conditions were almost perfect. Our search for wildlife took us deep into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, however, those much sort after Orca stayed out of sight. We did make a visit to observe the large beached Gray Whale at Becher Bay, East Sooke along the rugged westcoast. This unfortunate animal had washed up on the rocks during the weekend stormy weather. A sizable crowd of onlookers on shore had gathered to investigate this unusual sighting. On our return to dock we took in the sights of Race Rocks and saw 7 Elephant Seals lazing in the sunshine. A Bald Eagle's nest near Albert Head, unfortunately had blown down due to the winds over this weekend. Life on the west coast is subjected to some harsh conditions on occasion. Our many guests on board this afternoon really enjoyed their encounters with the mammals and birds found along the west coast.
