Being a 'Tourist in your Own Town ' has many great opportunities to explore this incredible city. It is even better when one includes a wild life adventure this week with 'Prince of Whales.'
The Ocean Magic vessel set off at 1pm to explore the productive waters in this area. With the knowledgeable crew, Derek and Shaun and Capt. Chris on board, our trip was bound to be a 'BLAST'. Even the weather managed to stay calm and dry despite the cloud cover. Glimpses of sunshine were an added bonus as we headed south west into the Strait of Juan de Fuca to find the illusive Orca. It wasn't long before one of our very observant international visitors shouted out, " look over there. I see a fin. '' Sure enough, two orca surfaced a short distance from each other and we were able to identify these two as Transients, T 20 and T 21. They didn't appear to be actively pursuing their prey, a possible harbour seal, but zig-zagged across the Strait . We watched them for a while and then took in the sights of Race Rocks, Harbour seals, gulls, cormorants, Steller's Sea Lion and Bald Eagle. The tide rip between the rocks was most impressive. We were able to relocate the two Transient Orca on our way back into the harbour. They were heading east together. Shaun and Derek gave a descriptive account of the incredible marine life to be found here on the west coast. It was a Great trip once again and our passengers were thrilled to see some of the wild life. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"
