Pure Magic is a word to describe the encounter with five Humpback Whales, Sunday 11th of October. It was a warm, sunny afternoon as the 12.15pm Ocean Magic 2 headed out of the harbour and travelled south to Constance Bank. It was here that two whales were frolicking with boisterous sea lions. Three others were seen off in the distance. A great deal of splashing was evident with behaviours of tail and pectoral flipper slaps on the surface of the smooth water. These two species appeared to be enjoying each others company. The curiosity of these Humpbacks gave all of our guests on board, an incredible view of their size as the whales floated around and under the boat. The water was so clear that one could see the entire whale just below the surface. It was awesome. Two '' gentle -giants '' just lazily meandering around. Our trip did include sightings of Dall's Porpoise, Harbour seals, Steller and California Sea Lions at Race Rocks Lighthouse. October continues to provide exciting wildlife adventures with ' Prince of Whales'. Marie "Orca-Magic", Clint "Orcawizard"
Most of the images on the blog are shot with a 400 mm telephoto lens. Because of our restrictions around wildlife (100+ meters), we use powerful lenses to better share orca activity that passengers see on their trips. Keep in mind this also heavily compresses space between objects. We also crop images for best blog viewing.
The videos are generally shot in wide angle and are very realistic to what the eye sees on the boat. Please enjoy the photos for the telephoto view, and the videos for a boat based, real life passenger view.
