Zodiac Adventure Aug 13 12 Noon

It was a brilliant day today, weather wise and whale wise. Skipper Mark took his Zodiac out west to find Transient whales that he had spotted on an earlier trip. These same whales were relocated near Sheringham Lighthouse. This family group included a granny, a daughter and her two offspring. While we observed them they managed to make a kill beneath the water. We left them foraging as they headed further west. A quick visit to Race Rocks gave the passengers views of Elephant and Harbour Seal, California and Steller Sea Lion. It was another special west coast day. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"

Zodiac Adventure Aug 12 11:30am

With Beamer taking the helm on the 11.30 Zodiac we travelled over some lumpy water to encounter individual members of L-Pod. They were spread out along the shore of San Juan Island. We were suddenly surprised by an orca breaching fairly close to the Zodiac. A nature trip through Chatham, Discovery and the Chain Islets gave us good looks at Harbour Seal and the nesting birds. Beamer explain to those on board how interesting and vital the Bull Kelp is to the health of the waters around the Victoria area. Zodiac Adventure Aug 11 5pm

There is a magical time of day when the sun edges toward the horizon and the waters still. That is the time to seek the Orca. Skipper John took us to San Juan Island where we found several members of L-Pod quietly milling around and well spread out. Their behaviour reflected the peace and tranquility of a most beautiful evening. L41 Mega, was very visible along with other big males who filled the air with their loud blows. We had exceptional views of these incredible marine mammals along with sightings of Harbour and Dall's porpoise. Another fantastic trip was enjoyed by all. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"

Ocean Magic Aug 10 3:30pm

Some days are memorable and others, pure magic. Today was one of those days with 'Super-pod ' around. With sunshine today and calm waters all three pods of the Southern Residents met up in the Salish sea. We found members of K and L pod at San Juan Island and they were entertaining all of us on board the 3.30pm Ocean Magic with spy hops, breaches and tail slaps close in shore. However, one curios L-Pod member L 87, spy hopped x 4 close to the end of our boat. Captain Brad, you did it again by selecting the best posible position for passengers to have a memorable experience with the Orca . Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"

Ocean Magic Aug 10 12:15pm

A special day today as we had a "Super Pod" all three southern resident Killer Whale pods grouped up. We caught up with the Orca off Discovery Island just east of Victoria. Capt Shamus put us in a great spot to watch all the whales as the passed by. As the sun was shinning in blue skies we took in the whales as they played. We saw beaching, spyhops and lots of tail lobbing as the whales interacted with each other. What an amazing sight to see.

Ocean Magic Aug 10 9am

The air was still and the seas calm as we headed out of the inner harbor in search of marine wildlife. Capt Brad took us west towards Race Rocks skirting a small bit of lingering fog. As we passed Race Rocks the fog opened up and the sun beamed down, and we spotted whales. Not just one Pod of Killer Whales, but all three Pods of the Southern Residents. We call this a "Super Pod" Passengers enjoyed the Tail Lobbing, Breaching and Spyhops, it was magical. Such a wonderful experience, our passengers were smiling from ear to ear.

Zodiac Adventure Aug 9 3pm

Only those that love whales would venture out in the driving rain to find excitement this afternoon. And that is exactly what we found. With skipper Mark at the helm, we encountered Ruffles, J1 and other members of J-Pod hunting salmon at Eagle Point, San Juan island. Even L 53 was still with J1. With flat calm waters, and few boats around, we were able to hear the serenade of calls, sqeaks, whistles and ecolocation clicks on the hydrophone. Although very wet, our return journey was accompanied by a colourful, arcing rainbow overhead.

Zodiac Adventure Aug 9 Noon

What is a little west coast rain on a Saturday in Victoria when the end result is a commune with the ORCA. We spent time watching the foraging behavour of J1 Ruffles, the oldest male of the Southern resident community, J, K and L pods. He was shadowed by L 53 much of the time. A new girl-friend perhaps. Zodiac Adventure Aug 7 Noon

It was an exciting noon trip again on the ''Queen of Hearts '' Zodiac, which took us northward into Haro Strait to find Transient Orca. We caught up with the big male Transient,T 20 and female, T21. Accompanying these two were four other transients, part of the T 124's. Although the waters were choppy, the weather stayed bright and sunny for all our visitors on board. We had big smiles again! Zodiac Adventure Aug 6 10am

It was a glorious morning with George at the wheel of the 10am Zodiac. We headed out across the calm waters of Haro Strait and southward to Rosario and Lopez island in the San Juans. We were on a mission to seek Orca. It was here among the picturesque islands, we found many members of J pod and three of L-Pod, L 57 Faith, a large male, L 53 , and L 7. They too were on a mission, heading north. Their presence was magical and all those visitors on board were thrilled. We headed back with smiles on our faces once again. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"
