Ocean Magic Adventure Sept 13 12:15pm

With Capt. Shamus at the helm of the 12.15pm Ocean Magic, we headed across Haro Strait under blue skies. It was a glorious afternoon, with Mt. Baker splendid in all her magnificence. Calm water surrounded us. The wildlife was bound to enthrall, and that is exactly what it did. We found the Orca, K and L Pod foraging near Iceberg Point Lopez Island. They were being monitored by a research boat from San Juan Island. Later we found 5-6 Dall's Porpoises on our return trip. They thrilled the passengers while speeding through our wake. What a beautiful, sunny September afternoon to really experience west coast wildlife.

Zodiac Adventure Sept 12 1pm

The fog that was seen in the morning, dispersed south by early afternoon and we had sunshine for the 1pm trip. Mark's Zodiac, with visitors from all over the world, headed north toward Mandarte Island to find seven ''Transients '', mammal eating whales. They were spread out across Haro Strait and heading south. Initially our encounter was with a group of four, a female with a young calf, then another group of two, with the lone Bull, T30, foraging off by himself. A quick trip to the Chain Islets to see Harbour Seals, gull and cormorant colony, concluded our exciting, west coast marine adventure. Photos by Marie "Orca-Magic"

Zodiac Adventure Sept 12 10am

The sunny days of September continue and so do the whale sightings. Our intrepid Skipper Mark, 'Mallard' took us out west, near Sooke to locate the whales. Although there was some fog to negotiate, we soon came across L Pod heading west. It appeared that the 'big boys'of this pod were foraging off shore and leading the pod. Mothers and calves followed. L 25 ,''Ocean Sun '', the oldest female in L Pod, swam past the Zodiac. It was great to see all these amazing whales once again even when the ocean swells hid them momentarily. Sea birds and gulls were numerous indicating the waters were rich with tiny fish. Another great adventure here on the west coast. Photos by "Orca-Magic"

Ocean Magic Adventure Sept 11 12:15pm

Our 12:15 Ocean Magic Adventure set out into the bright sunshine and calm seas. Capt. Anna took us west to Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we found all three Southern Resident Pods J K and L working the water. They were spread out searching the water for salmon. These amazing anaimals were observed in their natural habitat breaching, spyhopping as they made their way east towards San Juan Island. We then took a tour of Race Rocks, taking in the Sealions, Harbor Seals and all the birds. An awesome whale watching adventure was had by all.

Zodiac Adventure Sept 7 3:30pm

Our 3:30 Zodiac Adventure was simply amazing. Skipper Biran "Beemer" took us out west to Race Rocks where we caught up with Transient Orca, circling a raft of kelp. In the raft of kelp a young harbor seal was hiding. The whales put on a great show as they worked the water in search of the seal. We then heaed through Race Rocks, checking out the wildlife, Sealions, Harbor Seals and all the birds. We then headed to Beecher Bay and caught up with J and L pods as they worked south. We all enjoyed these whales, spyhopping, tail lobbing, and one whale put on an fabulous breach fest...over 24 times... simply amazing. This was a wonderful trip.

Ocean Magic Adventure Sept 7 3:30pm

With our experienced, Captain Brad at the helm we headed south to catch up with the Transients, the T30's who had been reported to be surrounding a seal on a kelp bed. We found them tail slapping, and slicing through the water, trying to intimidate the lone seal. For several hours this family apparently surrounded the seal, possibly teaching their own young how to hunt. Luckily for the seal, the resident whales, J Pod and some of L Pod were on their way in from the west quickly, which apparently sent the Transients on their way. It was exciting to see several members of J Pod swim close to the OM. The visitors on board were all smiles as they disembarked at the dock. Another exciting adventure with POW. Zodiac Adventure Sept 7 Noon

Our Skipper Brian "Beemer" set out to see the wonders of the west coast. Brian took us south of Race Rocks where we watched Killer Whales. These whales were Transient Orca, mammal eating top of the food chain. They were in traveling mode and were working their way west. We then took a tour of Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Steller and California Sealions were hauled out on the rocks resting as we made our way past. Our wonderful trip only got better with a run north west we took in Resident Orca J and L pods as they worked their way south. J1 Ruffles and J2 Granny made a nice pass by our zodiac. Such a super trip, we were all smiles.

Ocean Magic Adventure Noon Sept 7

The noon trip on the Ocean Magic promised to be an adventure in the bright sunshine. Our Captain, Gord, took us out into the Strait to find several small families of Transient Killer Whales, the marine mammal eating Orca. We came across two groups hunting seal and porpoises. Their explosive activity was fascinating to watch. With calm, blue water around, it was easy to spot all the marine wildlife. Our trip gaves us good looks at Harbour Seals, California and Steller Sea Lions, Elephant Seal, Dall's Porpoise, and even a very young Transient Killer Whale. Ocean Magic Adventure Sept. 6

The great September weather continues and so does the whale watching. As more Humpback whales, Porpoises, California and Steller Sea Lions move into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Race Rocks area, the viewing of marine wildlife along our shores becomes even more pleasurable. The Transient Killer Whales have been very visible lately with spectacular shows of hunting behaviour. All this interesting wildlife just outside the Victoria Harbour makes for spectacular trips aboad the Oceam Magic or POW, Zodiacs.
